Homemade Pizza (Vegan and Traditional)
INGREDIENTS 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (or pastry flour) 1 cup lukewarm water 1 tablespoon yeast 1 teaspoon salt 4 tablespoons vegetable oil (can substitute olive oil or vegan butter or apple sauce) herbs/spices (optional) DIRECTIONS Preheat oven 425 degrees. Mix the yeast with lukewarm water until the yeast is dissolved. Let it stand for a few minutes. Add the salt and vegetable oil and mix. Mix in the flour. Add any herbs or spices. Knead the dough with your hands and then roll it out (with your hands or a rolling pin). Put the pizza in the oven for 5 minutes then take it out and cover it with vegetable oil (or olive oil). Add toppings. Cook for 10-15 more minutes. This recipe comes from here. Pizza #1 — indian curry (from a can), sliced cauliflower Pizza #2 — homemade tomato sauce, vegan mozzarella, vegan sausage, vegan pepperoni, crimini mushrooms, pineapple Pizza #3 (not vegan) — homemade tomato sauce, goat milk cheddar, feta, fresh parmesan, sundried tomatoes, spinach, red onion, garlic NOTES: It helps to add a little oil to the toppings so that they don’t burn in the oven. Also, a good vegan cheese is the brand “Follow Your Heart”. I’m personally not a huge fan of their cheddar but the mozzarella and monterey jack are delicious.
